ACxDC: Interview with Sergio!

Sorry for the gay highlight shit. I can't get it to go away! Well anyways, ENJOY!!!

Erik has achieved in his mission on getting this exclusive interview with Sergio, the singer of ACxDC!

So sit back and read this shit!

Erik- So can you name the members and what they do in the band?

Sergio-
Jorge - Drums
Jose - Guitar
Jeff - Bass
Sergio - Vocals

E-What type of music do you play?

S-I guess we play powerviolence? Haha. I mean it depends on who you ask. We like
"grindviolence" as a term but we use elements of all types of extreme music were influenced
by.

E-How did you guys discover the name ACxDC? And is this the first name the band has had?

S-The name came about as a joke. At first it was inspired by Dashboard Confessional ripping off AC/DC 's font. We said...if Charles Bronson can steal the name of a person, and Dashboard can steal the logo of a band. Why cant we steal the name of a band!? Then we just came up with a ton of different acronyms for the band name after. It was really the first and only name for us. We messed around with either spelling it out or using the acronym and decided on the shortened version.

E-How did ACxDC begin?

S-We kind of started off around the same time as my other band Asshole Assassination Squad did. Id say around 02-03. Our original guitarist Pablo had wanted to start this band after his band Get Down sort of dissolved. So he introduced me to our original drummer and I brought on our bassist who was also in AAS. It was just kind of a convergence of interests. Pablo and JC were both more into metal whereas myself and Jeff were more into fast hardcore and powerviolence. We ended up just playing the style we did because we all had the same likes and dislikes ha.

The band went on a long hiatus in which we were broken up. We ended in like 05 and got back together last year. We basically decided between three of the original members that we wanted to try it again since we never achieved what we wanted to with the band and a lot of people were still interested in us. So we did the reunion show with Jose as a second guitarist and his brother Bobby as the new drummer. After a while it was apparent our original guitarist as well as Bobby really werent going to be able to commit to the band as much as we needed them too. We enlisted yet another member of AAS to be our drummer. So the current lineup is the one I listed earlier. This lineup works pretty damn good. We managed to record a second album plus tour and play some amazing shows

E-Can you tell us a little bit about the band, its members, and what you stand for?

S-We dont necessarily stand for any one thing. I know straightedge is a big part of whats recognizable in the band but were not an edge band per se. I mean I am the only edge member but we use the imagery because everyone at one point or another has dabbled with edge or sobriety or whatever and has taken away valuable lessons from it. Plus we like to encourage people to have more positive than negative in their lives. Basically I think the main thing I write about and the main thing that the guys relate to is alienation, aggression, anger, disappointment, but in a funny way and with a slight socio-political bent but without ever being preachy. Again we value straightedge, veganism, anarchism, punk and DIY, etc but we always wanted to be a band that if you wanted to think about the things we expressed or did you could, but you could also just enjoy and have a good time with it.

E-What are some of your influences?

S-Influences are varied. I think we enjoy Spazz lyrically in terms of the silliness. Crossed Out/ Infest for their aggression. Metal for the technical aspects. Thrash for the speed. Dbeat and and hardcore for the more fun elements. I dont really know. Honestly we listen to so much music. I also think movies and our day to day routine really affects us. We tend to write a lot of stuff based on TV and movies and whatnot. A lot of people compare us to Graf Orlock. I love the shit out of that band and those doods but I feel like theres something inherently different about both our bands I just cant pin point.

E-What's your most embarrassing experience?

S-Embarrassing? Uhm...well I wasnt really ashamed of this but I did play a show naked once haha. It was pretty funny. I crowd surfed naked and I have to say that has to be one of the funniest things Ive ever done. In general though all our experiences tend to be pretty fun and memorable in retrospect. Even the most fucked up ones make for good memories!

E-What are some positives and negatives?

S-Positives have included putting out some records we feel are pretty solid. Finally getting to tour with this band. Being a fully functional band at last. In terms of playing some badass shows, making merch we always wanted to make, pushing the limits of our band, making tons of friends and meeting people weve admired for a long time. Negatives dont really come about that much. Everything can be handled better but in the end were happy with where we are. We could complain about some bullshit but its just bullshit so Id rather focus on what were doing right and enjoying being in a band with some badass friends!

Thanks again Sergio for this interview!
